3rd Grade3rd graders started rehearsing for their puppet show. They've read through the play first, and learned all about character voice. Since the audience won't see their faces and body, the voice of the actors in puppet shows are very important! Since theater is new for many students in 3rd grade, they learned many new things in this part of the process from what scripts and lines are, to the rehearsal process. They are extremely excited for their upcoming showcase on the 19th! Here you can see that they are learning to set rehearsal goals for themselves for each practice. 4th Grade4th graders finished reading their Shakespeare play earlier this month, and have learned some basic acting and directing skills as well. Everyone in the classes will be actors and are responsible for knowing their line cues, entrances, exits and blocking. They'll showcase this knowledge next month so stay tuned! 4th grade also went on a trip this month to see The Frog Prince at Queensborough Performing Arts Center. Prior to Shakespeare, students learned about the plays and stories that were popular centuries ago, and how they are still popular today. The Frog Prince is a classic from the 1800s and is now still popular today so it's a great example for the students to see how stories like this one and Shakespeare can be timeless. 7th Grade7th graders finished reading Wiley and the Hairy Man and have been split into their directing and acting groups. We examined the role of the Chorus in the play. They learned about the parts of the stage, and how to design and record blocking. Each group has a director leader who will design the blocking for the characters. It will be exciting to see what they come up with. Especially when they have to create the blocking for the Chorus! Look forward to their showcase next month! 8th Grade8th graders worked hard this month writing the rest of the play! Students turned in the scenes for their plays and the creative details in the stories are amazing! This month, students wrote:
